OF FRIENDS, VAMPIRES, PONTIANAK & WEDDING BELLS
The past few days haven't post any entries. Blame it on the rain. hehehe. Stuck at home and spend my days reading.
On Tuesday I went to meet my friend, Indra Sumantri, who's back on a two-month holiday. Wah, envy him lah, his uni got 2-month holiday. Mine only for three weeks lah. We meet at Coffee Bean in Kuching and chatted just about anything. He is currently doing his Master in Software Engineering in UM. Good thing he is not as thin as he used to be. Gave me a jade necklace from China (Thanks Indra!) and i like it so much. Hehehe. Lain kali gi China, ajak la aku sekali. =)
Watched Van Helsing on VCD. Liked it and it does scares me at times. Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is the professional vampire-things-that-go-bump-in-the-dark slayer.The Dracula very scary. He simply radiates evil and strikes fear. The three brides; Aleera, Verona & Marishka are also scary and their aerobatics performance will surely outperform any Air Force. Anna (Kate Beckinsale) teams up with Van Helsing and his sidekick, Carl (I'm not a priest, I'm a friar) to vanquish Dracula. Imagine a movie where all those horror stories that I grew up on rolled into a movie. Dracula, werewolves, Frankenstein, and Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. This movie is light and entertaining. Scary? Not really.
On Tuesday night went to watch Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam. Directed by Shuhaimi Baba, this is a refreshing film that breaks away from the so predictable plots of local films. Read story here.Starring Maya Karin as both Meriam and Maria, this is her best performance so far. The quality of the film and photography is really good. The movie breaks into two main parts; first is the town of Paku Laris circa 1947 and the second part is Paku Laris in the present. I like the first part of the movie because it shows a depth of emotions and the transitions between scenes are smooth. It also managed to capture the mood and environment of a small Malay town in the early 1940's. The second part is rather confusing and distracting. Maybe it's due to the editing or censoring by the National Film Board. The scenes jump chaotically from one scene to another. If it's due to the censoring, please please lah next time don't chinchai cut until the quality or the story is affected. Verdict: I like this movie. Howvere, as I leave the cinema, there are many questions that lingers in my mind. Who is Maria? Where is she from? What happened to Meriam's child? Is Maria, Meriam's child? I engaged in discussions and debates with my friend about this story. Congratulations to Shuhaimi Baba for making a movie that challenges us to think.
My two close friends are getting married on 31st May 2004. Been couple2 since 1999 (If I'm not wrong). Will be going to their church wedding but wouldn't be able to go to the reception as I have to rush back for Gawai's reunion dinner. To Victor & Jess, Many blessing on your joyous occassion. May your marriage be blessed by God most high.

GREEK & CATS
Settled something with the PostGrad Centre today. Settle the final exam date on behalf of the whole class. Phew...
Presentation last Saturday was a success even though my partner didn't make it for the presentation. She was busy sorting out the mess her predecessor left for her at the College she's working now. My lecturer was pretty impressed by the model that i proposed in the class. Juz need a bit of improvement and then, copyright it. Heheh.
Yesterday went to town with Botak. Went window shopping and watched Troy. His treat cos gaji masuk already. Heheh... How did I find the movie. Ok lah, not really a fan of Brad (though I admit, he does look yummy in this movie). Arrogant, rebellious and seemingly invincible, Achilles has allegiance to nothing and no one, save his own glory. It is his insatiable hunger for eternal renown that leads him to attack the gates of Troy under Agamemnon’s banner – but it will be love that ultimately decides his fate. He met Briseis (Rose Byrne), the cousin of Prince Hector(Eric Bana), captured after they sieged the beach of Troy. She hated him but in true almost Hindi movie style, they make out pulak. How about the two person responsible for the fall of Troy, the beautiful Helen and even-more-beautiful Paris? They don't have much presence in this movie. Diane Kruger as Helen doesn't have to do much, just act pretty and helpless looking. I prefer Briseis for her fiery spirit and daring to spar with Achilles in tounges. All in all, a good movie.
Then watched Shrek 2. Verdict: I think the movie is rather fast. At the end of the movie I was "Huh?! Habis already arr?". But Puss in Boots really stole the show. Puss is one really sexy cat ... *Purrrr* Heheh. Especially when he look all cute with the kesian face. Heheh.
Well, that's the movie reviews for now. Tomorrow will be going to Kch to meet my friends from undergrad days.

PERSONALITY DISORDER TEST RESULTS

There you go... My personality disorder test result. I'm sure that there are sighs of relief from my friends since that they can rest their fears about me being schizo. Hahah. Just kidding.
But it seems that I have quite high level of being paranoid. (o_O)' Simply translated, paranoid personality disorder is characterized by a distrust of others and a constant suspicion that people around them have sinister motives... search for hidden meanings in everything and read hostile intentions into the actions of others...often appear cold and distant to others...tend to carry long grudges. (Ya meh? Err... Maybe because I have such big stab holes on my back makes me, err, Cautious??)
Meanwhile, my narcissistic and histrionic personality disorder said that I am an attention seeker? Umm, I'm not sure 'bout this. Maybe rather subconsciously. Hmm... Will think 'bout this. Hehehe
Give it a try just for fun but hey, don't take it too seriously and self-diagnose yourself 'kay. It's just another test. Cheerios =)

FAITH
Been real slacking these past few days and my brain is starting to feel the effects of inactivity. Read a few books and finish each book within 3 hrs. *yawn*
On another note, please read this article written by Kim Wang. I found this article to be both inspiring and challenging us to move on and have faith. Faith in ourself and in God.
"What are you afraid of?", it is something that i could relate to. How many times have we held back from career change / having a new relationship / moving / changing courses? Why did we hold back? Because we are scared of the unknown. We are intimidated by change. We wrap ourself in our own blanket of so-called security and so we deny ourself the adventure of venturing into the REAL WORLD. We are stuck in our cocoon of comfort and miss out the thrill of actually living instead of merely existing on terra firma.
Let me tell you my story.
I took the brave leap of changing my course in my 2nd year in UKM and quitting UKM. I nekad to quit and apply to other uni. A very risky move but a decision I made after I decided to forget about my fears and focus on the challenges ahead. It was hard for a few months, my parents couldn't accept my decision and my family couldn't believe that I am throwing away my opportunity. It was sufficient to say that I was a persona non grata at home for quite some time until I had a heart-to-heart discussion with them and I shared all my frustrations and feelings. Later, I was offered to enter UNIMAS. Thanks to this episode in my life, I emerged a wiser and more experienced person. I learned a lesson in having faith and perseverance. And life keeps getting better.
So, what do you have to fear? In Psalm 56: 11, " In Him I trust and I shall not be afraid, What can a mere human do to me?". This is my favorite verse and my motto. We put our trust in God and faith that the Lord will guide us in life. Remember, when something goes wrong, God is not saying "NO!" but God is telling us "I HAVE A BETTER PLAN FOR YOU!".
Think 'bout it.

I've got a new hairstyle. Very2 short. It was due to some error in judgement of the capabilities of a hairstylist who just opened shop near my apartment (Duh! What was I thinking). I wanted a short style since it's easier to care and style and since the weather here in KS is scorchingly hot, I need, no, I desperately need a haircut.
So, thinking that the hairstylist (?!) is experienced and skillful enough, I entrusted her with the task of cutting my hair. End result: Argh! Total disaster. The style is neither here nor there (Iban saying: Ke ulu enda, ke ili enda)Plus, the cut makes my hair look like a porcupine with its spiky ends cut blunt. Yeark! (In the middle of the cutting process, I do have a funny, twisted kinda feeling in my gut, somehow I knew this has to be repaired somewhere)
Later, I decided to go to Kuching with my friends to repair whatever that's left of my hair to a more aesthetically acceptable style. So end result: A short, spiky hairstyle that's easy to manage and screams attitude.
Test drive: Shocked a few (no, actually, a lot!) friends and people with my new hairstyle. Some responded with wide eyes & open mouth, while others with lots of compliments (one good friend of mine say that it made me look like a rebellious person. Am I? Hmmm). Heheheh... For me, it's just a convenient style with minimal fuss and care. I like!

BACK AGAIN
Hello, I'm back. Did I survive the long weekend? Yep, sure did. Heheh
I've promised to write something about how to deliver a good presentation during the weekend, but it seems that everyone is conspiring to actually make me busy during the weekend. On Saturday, I was reading something for my class and some books.
On Sunday, I went to church and ronda2 around Kuching with my friends, Lay, Mina and Joha. Joha was in Kuching for a short weekend vacation and we decided to meet up. Drove to Siburan to pick up Lay before heading to church. Went to Saberkas to buy some books at the Salvation Book Centre. Later that evening, sent Lay back to Siburan and drove back alone to Uni.
On Monday, stayed at home and reading the book 'Why You Act The Way You Do? by La Haye' and in the late afternoon, jadi driver again.
Tuesday, went to Saberkas and Wisma Satok with my roomate Za. Went on the ride on her scooter. Hehehe. Went to Matang and Kuching. Almost went to Damai beach but decided to go some other time. =)
Wednesday, Thursday, spent the day reading or watching VCDs. (I'm a slacker extraordinaire? Need I say more?)Hehehe. Hey, I finally watched the Hindi movie (Wah! Can you believe it?) 'Kal Ho Na Ho' or something like that lah. The fact that I don't watch Hindi movie is due to its being overflowed by melodrama and, oh, not forgetting the sometimes so predictable storyline. But hey, the cinematography of this movie is good, and the storyline is ok lah.
Also watched Stephen Chow's movie. Wahahaha... Laughed like crazy watching his movies =). He's the King of Comedy lah. Shaolin Soccer: Melampau-lampau effects in the movie. Wah, if really there's such a team exists, Beckham kena lah balik kampung dia tanam jagung. Hihihi...
Tomorrow, I'll be going to a dinner organized by the DBNA in Grand Continental. Makan2... heheheh
Will tell 'bout it next week. Tata. Have a nice weekend.
