Lazy Sunday

It's a lazy Sunday. Didn't even know that Mum, Dad, Mak and Aba went to Durin today. Either hey didn't wake me up or I didn't wake up when they tried to wake me. Hehehe...
[Note: Mum did try to wake me up but I thought it was a dream and all I could hear was "Na, bra bla ble bla bla?". Hehehe... Menyesal]

Slept at 5 a.m. so I 'pengsan' until it was almost 9.30 a.m. Was busy copying my Naruto anime DVDs for my cousin. Also, tummy acting all weird and frequently get the urge to run to the loo every now and then.
Woke up, straight away took my shower (ah, so refreshing!) and went to the kitchen to eat breakfast. Kak Asih (my Mum's maid) wanted to prepare my breakfast but I said I prefer to do my own. My menu; half-boiled egg with Somboi juice. Weird choice?Hmm... It tasted good actually. Unusual, but good.
Then makan kuaci while watching TV and then... lunchtime.
And now it's back to burning DVDs for my cousin.
Tomorrow, I'll know where I'm posted.

Last Friday, sis treat me for some ice cream (Mum & Dad are so gonna kill us both). Being the glutton that I am, I ate it without much considerations towards my condition.
WRONG.THING.TO.DO.
The coughing fit started.
The fit caused my chest and diaphragm to hurt (real bad. as if being squeezed tight).
Wheezing and echoing sounds when I breathe.
Dang!
I had to put some balm there and to use the inhaler.twice.
You see, i hate using the inhaler and I try to minimize the use (only if I absolutely have to) to reduce dependency.
Lessons learnt:
I have to say goodbye to ice cream and cold2 stuffs ( hopefully it's just temporarily) and have to ensure that i wear sweaters in cold places.
Also, I found out that drinking warm homemade 'somboi' juice helps to stop the coughing fit. ^_^

A Change Would Do Good

Decided to change the way this blog looks like. I was bored of the way it looks and had quite some free time on my hands, so.. ta-dah!
Change, some says, symbolizes a rebirth. Of rising from the ashes. A fresh new outlook towards life. Living life as God wills me to live it.

I read this somewhere,
"Why is it that, when we speak to God, it is called praying, but when God speaks to us,it is schizoprenia?"

How true. Heheh... Opps...

Hmm.... Been so long since I last went to Mt. Singai. I really miss that place. It's like a sanctuary to me. Where I found the serenity to be at peace with nature, myself and God... And an escape from the din and ugliness of the world. The water there, oh, so cold but refreshing. As if it could wash all your fatigue and pain. Am thinking of inviting some friends to join me to go there. Or I might join retreat organized by UiTM or GPK... Yeah... That would be good.

Sanna flew back to KL yesterday. No, she didn't use the Nimbus, I needed that to fly to where I'm to be posted lah. Hahah...
She's 7 years younger than me so we kind of grew up together. But during those years, we were like oil and fire. You should never mix us together. But now, we get along well. Just like having a close friend to be crazy with... The difference with having sisters/brothers/cousins/nephews/nieces as your friend is that they will never ditch you. Or develop strangey-feely towards you.
Sanna, do your absolute best in your studies and take care (Don't forget to go to Mass and pray daily). God bless you always.

They Believed We Could Fly!!

Wow, I just realized that the P.U.T (people up there) really had a huge faith in us. Not only are we the pioneer batch in the Dip.Ed programme under them and had such an adventurous time, now they believed that we actually could fly. Wow, such faith. We're so flattered. not!

Yes, that's us ready to fly off to our postings with our kryptonite-enhanced powers.

How could it not be the case when we will only know our postings (which could be anywhere in this HUGE state, either in the urban jungle or the remotest rural area) on the 31st of December AND we're expected to report for duty on the 2nd day of the new year. Think that's impossible? Oh no, you see, they expect us to have super powers or at least a flying broom/carpet/whatchamacallit that will enable us to arrive there right on time. Or that accommodations will 'magically' appear so that we'll have a place to stay... No, wait, we won't need a place to stay. WE HAVE THE NIMBUS 2001.

SWEET. With this, I can 'ulang-alik' from my house to work

Ain't that 'sweet'. Guess I'm not to enjoy a pleasant start to my new year. But here's to you:

It is the in the season of Advent. A period to prepare ourselves to receive Christ into our lives. This is the season to reexamine ourself and all the things that we did along the year. It is also our chance to count our blessings and to thank God for all that He had given us, especialy the gift of the birth of our Savior.

I thank the Lord for the blessings that He had given me:

My life (You saved me when I was in the womb, You saved me when I was born, and keeping me alive through all the years)

my family (they made me into who I am, my flesh and blood, my pillar and my greatest supporters),

friends (for being there and sometimes, for not being there),

getting into my Dip.Ed and scoring as the top student (proving that people who lived on trees are naturaly have better cognitive functions),

my lecturers (they've taught me one thing or the other),

Dr.Gaudart, my mentor (my inspiration to be the best)

my practical teaching,

my students (the good, the bad and the ugly),

my youngest cousins, Baby Blessed Gabriel Jaydean and Baby Kyra Alexandra Yap (their birth are nothing short of miracles),

finally free of the thing that been making my life miserable (I am a survivor),

the mistakes i have made (that i will be wiser),

and the strength that Christ has given me thus far (You are my light, my star to Betlehem).

Art of Friendship & Almost Crash (Rant-Alert!)

Hmm...just came back from my longhouse yesterday.wanted to post the pictures of flooded areas in Sibu but the camera's stil with Dad. so maybe next time (if i ever get to it la)..heheh
am keeping low now, not even calling any nearby friends to go out or anything. ya lah, sometimes my genuine interest to meet up might be misunderstand. It's better if I focus on my projects.
But my friend, Dr Debs will be coming for Christmas (ni la kawan aku masa susah dan senang, bukan masa susah ja ingat pada orang).
In fact, this reminds me of something that happened during my matriculation. I once swore to my friend, Nurasykin (mana engkau sekarang ni hah?), that I will stop being too nice and suka sangat membantu because in the end, macam melepas anjing tersepit, my back kena stab.
So I changed to be a hard-hearted, acidic tongue bitch. but deep inside, still macam marshmallow, quick to feel concern and pity. I don't know, but if i consider someone as my friend, i truly cares about them. But it does sadden me when they don't seem to appreciate it..so, buat apa lagi mau buat something yang sia-sia. there are others deserving of it more...
***************
on another note, i felt like throwing a brick at a 4WD yesterday. Sial punya driver, buta ka tak nampak our Hilux, masih mau overtake other cars depan dia...Not one car ja, but 3 cars. And almost crashed into us.
Stupid a$$hole!You f*cking blind kah?!
I was sure that if we were in a Kancil or smaller car, mesti he will not give a damn and langgar ja. Thankfully my Dad is cool and didn't panic. If not memang we would have crashed into the ditch.
Dear rude 4WD driver, there is karma and retribution in this world. One day my dear, YOU will recieve what you have given unto others...
F*ckFace!!!

My New Gadget

Yes, it's my new best friend. ..Dr Simon Yii from Rejang Specialist Medical Centre advised me to use it. Apparently I have asthma (i think it was mild) since at night I will have wheezing noises when I breathe. When my coughing spell starts, that is when I wouldn't be able to sleep or breathe well. Last night I used the evohaler and my coughing subsides. Wah, finally I can sleep well. Also taking medications (steroids for my lung and antibiotics) to recover..
*Yuck!I hate medications*
I've used the evohaler before, 10 years back to be exact. I weaned myself to stop relying on it but now the Doctor advised me to use it again to keep it under control.
Had my Hepatitis A immunization also yesterday. 2nd dose will be administered in 6-months time.

Vampire Results

My blood test results came out today. Mum n Dad went to pick it up.
The results are...
everything is ok, except
my cholesterol is a wee bit high, LDL one is a bit high (that's the bad cholesterol right?), i need immunisation against Hep A, and my ESR and lymphocyte level is a bit high. I need to watch my glucose and also my uric acid levels since mine is a bit borderline amid being within the normal range.
*sigh*
now my parents are going to watch what i eat like a hawk... have to watch my cholesterol level also.
Yesterday, went to Sibu with Sis to accompany her n the kids to get their blood tested (my family are health freaks except me). Then went to get this done at Alan Salon & Academy...heheh

BLOOD SUCKING VAMPIRES vs SPEAKERS

Got my blood tested.

and i end up with this...

and that was after 3 days and after my niece rubbed some medicated oil on it to 'break' the clot.

and my mum's (she took d same test at the same time) arm is perfectly ok, no bruising whatsoever.

*sigh*

**********************************

mum got me a brand new speaker set for my laptop. wah...

actually didn't expect mum to get the speakers for me, as the conversation prior to that went along these lines...

Me: Dad. Look these are the speakers i told u about. Nice kan? (secretly hoping Dad will say, yeah.come, let's go buy)

Dad: Hmm...how much does it cost?

Me: Mmmm..this smaller one cost around RMXXX. Good la Dad.Can this, that, bla bla bla... (I should ve been in sales)

Dad (turns to Mum): Ok. Eh, ma... Uji nuan meli tu? Buy la...

Mum: I won't buy if it is that. bla bla..ur home office is messy...bla bla..throw ur junk away..bla bla...anything to do with ur gadgets i wont...bla bla (mum thinks Dad wants the speakers, i guess)

Dad: Dah jangka dah u would say that. Saja mau try tanya..hehehe
(so I was thinking, well... no hope already lah.makan hati, jantung and paru2 onli lah...)

Suddenly after lunch,

Mum: Na, how much is the speaker that u want?

Me : ???? RMXXX.

Mum: Get dressed then. Let's go to Sibu.

Me :????

In car,

Dad: What did u say to ur mum? Did u beg her?

Me : No. I was surprised also lah.

Dad: Hmm... Must be ur mum got another plan.

(yes, she went hunting for vases but didn't buy.yet)

and yay..i got these babies.hahaha...

mum is ok with me blasting the roofs off because my room is the furthest from theirs.hahaha...The word? simply beautiful. the bass is so good u can almost taste the sounds.hehehe

Health Check??? Argh!!!

Mom is bugging me to get my health checked. The whole she-bang with the blood and urine tests... Been putting it off for too long. Well, I don't blame them for being very concerned about health since my family members have history of hypertension, renal disease, arthritis, gout, diabetes and heart problems. I must admit that I had my share of bronchitis, sinus problems and this and that. But I just can't bring myself to get my health checked. The last time i went for the health exam (which was 11 frickin' years ago), the nurse (or assitant or whatever the job designation was) drew my blood out using a syringe and caused internal haemorraging that left a big bruise on my arm. I looked freaky and got fed up with everyone kepoh-ing about 'Eeei, what happen to your arm?'

Tsk.

and I don't like needles, k... anything about drawing out my bodily fluids feels like an intrusion and ugh, i just don't like it.

*************************
I am back home now. Wah, now even got wi-fi at home lah. Don't dare play-play a...heheh.but due to some problem, i only access use dad's laptop (which is waaaayyyy cooler than mine). eh, Dad, want to trade laptop?hehehe

went back to my village. and on Sunday, Dad, Mum and my nieces went to the other longhouse to welcome the Ms Tourism finalists. I didn't go... Didn't feel like it also. Rather stay at home than be somewhere crowded and smelling nasty B.O.'s...haha.

TESTS :-)

You Are Scary

You even scare scary people sometimes!

Me? Scary??? Hmmm.... I guess the result is quite accurate. There's quite a few who said that I am scary. In fact some of my friend dare not to approach me at first because they perceive me as scary. Well, all I gotta say is that I may not look all sugar and spice and everything nice... I think of myself as fiery chilli, a taste that is acquired. But once one learns to like the taste of chilli, one simply can't get enough of it. That's me, the hot, fiery chilli. :)

****************************************

You Are An Intro-Extrovert!

Sometimes you're social - sometimes you're shy
You've got a bit of an Introvert / Extrovert split going on
You enjoy all sorts of situations. Parties, small groups, and alone time.
Too much of one, and you'll long for the other. You need variety!
Chances are, you've got both serious and fun friends - and they don't get along.

Hmmm... I do value my alone time and I can spend a day alone just doing things that I enjoy. At the same time, I am not a hermit. I do enjoy having fun with friends... I'll balance my need for company and my alone time... :)

*********************************

You Are Boot Cut Jeans

You're fashionable and sexy - in an understated way.
You're more about looking good than following the latest look of the week.

What coincidence... My jeans are boot cut jeans... heheh...

******************************
You Are Trinity

"Touch me and that hand will never touch anything again."

******************************
You are Sneakers!

You're an active girl, who's all about function
You dress for the occasion - comfort comes first
Your perfect guy? Someone who can keep up with you.
You'll find him - but you might have to slow down to see him!

************************************
You Are the Ego

You take a balanced approach to your life.
You definitely aren't afraid to act out on your desires - even crazy ones.
But you usually think first. Morals drive you as much as hedonism does.
You've been able to live a life of pleasure... without living a life of excess.

***********************************
Your Dominant Intelligence is Interpersonal Intelligence

You shine in your ability to realate to and understand others.
Good at seeing others' points of view, you get how people think and feel.
You have an uncanny ability to sense true feelings, intentions, and motivations.
A natural born leader, you are great at teaching and mediating conflict.

You would make a good counselor, salesperson, politician, or business person.

I think I'm in the right profession. :)

Namesake & Family

Short note:
Had the most expensive lunch yesterday. RM 45 for a plate of mixed rice. I paid using RM50 note and forgot that I used RM50 note to pay for my lunch and happily accepted RM5 balance (there were lots of customers and I was frantically fighting for a seat). Didn't realize that I was RM40 short, until I've reached home. D*mn!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Namesake

To console myself over my being RM40 poorer, I watched this movie directed by Mira Nair (of Monsoon Weddings fame). I've long wanted to watch this movie but just managed to find the VCD (couldn't afford the DVD now, could we?). This story is about discovering roots, establishing new roots and the journey of understanding ourselves, our culture and what we are deep inside. The movie shows how a ‘new’ culture could be formed by an emulsion of different cultures that surrounds us.

One scene that touches me was when Gogol (played by Kal Penn of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle), went to his father’s apartment after he identified his father’s body in the hospital morgue. He went into his father’s room, tried his father’s shoes, and lay on his father’s bed and cried. That was when he really felt the grief of losing his father who he often took for granted. How often do we show appreciation to those we love? (I know this sound like a cliché, but honestly, when was the last time we called up our dear ones and show how much we appreciate them?). Are we going to wait until it’s a second too late?

I used to have conflicts with my siblings and parents when I was in ‘the ugly stage’ *read: teenage years*, you know, the age when parents misunderstood us and our siblings irritate the hell out of us. I almost got into a fistfight with my 2nd brother (he is a big as a bear, literally) and some scuffles with my sister. But as I grow older, and wiser, I realized that although I have ‘issues’ with them, I was and still am fiercely protective of them. Woe to those who dared to mess around with them. Now I have a good relationship with my sister and my brothers. They do piss me off sometimes, but it is easier for me to let go of the anger. (Anger management therapy works, I guess). I try to call my family as often as I can.

(Note to self: with brothers try to make the gestures more obvious. Subtle signs won’t work, they can’t read subtle signs. In fact, make sure it’s something I can use to twist their arms later, especially when it’s servicing car time. Oooppss, old habits die hard.heheh)

Another scene that attracts me is the scene between Ashok and Ashima (played by Irrfan Khan and Tabu respectively) when they walk in the park. Although they did not show their affection physically in public, it shows in their eyes how much love and affection they have for each other. It reminds me of my mum and dad and also of my grandma and my late grandpa. They don’t show their affections publicly but the small gestures speak louder. I remembered how Grandpa would check and repair Grandma’s ‘Pua’ weaving equipment and Grandma brewing tea for Grandpa and coffee for herself because she could not drink tea and when she did the heavier work in the farm since Grandpa could not do strenuous work after recovering from tuberculosis. Also, Dad starting to eat bitter gourd that Mum cooks (he hates it as much as I do) or accompanying Mum on her diet. Mum scheming planning and nagging us to plan Father’s day party for Dad.

Accepting the sometimes quirky or irritating habits of the ones they love. Like how Dad complains every time Mum went shopping for 2 items and ended up with two bagfuls of things. How Mum complains about Dad spending hours in the hardware sections in the supermarket. I realized my parents’ acceptance and trust of me when they accepted my decisions to quit engineering and take the course of my interest. It was hard for them to understand but they supported me nevertheless.

After watching the movie, I realized that wherever we may be, whatever culture we may be in, we can never deny the influence and importance of our family and the values that we learn in our family. Although we may deny it, one day we will gain enough wisdom to understand it.

Self talk: Am planning something now. It is still in planning stage and feasibility assessment. I am going to getting opinions from some.

CARS, CARS, CARS

My dream car: Mitsubishi Triton.
this is one badass car...hehehe. Senang nak balik kampung :)
And I can stare down those who glared at me when I drove my SLK (Small lil' Kelisa).

Beautiful car! Feast your eyes!

I checked out one last July during my holiday and I fell in love with this car. It's very spacious and comfortable. Even though it's a 4WD, I didn't get my vertigo at all. I am terrified of 'tall' cars since I am afraid of heights, but with this one, there no fear at all. The interiors are very cool and sleek-looking, I am soooooo in lurve with this car...

or if I can't get Triton, I'll get this

(not sure about price range yet. Anyone know how much this baby cost in Sarawak???)

or

hehehe...as long as it's not Proton. Scared sh!t to drive a Proton... But Persona looks nice ain't it? Hmmm...

In the Wake of Nurin Jazlin Tragedy

Who has not heard about the gruesome case of child sexual abuse and murder of Little Nurin Jazlin? The news that shook the nation to its core. In the aftermath, there's a lot of tongue barkingwagging and finger pointing. While it was reckless to allow a small child to walk alone at night, isn't losing her the biggest pain? Does anyone need to pour salt, lime and chilli on their wounds? Enough already! If they want to prosecute negligent parents, then DO prosecute those who tied their child and put them on a fridge, or those who allow their children to be young 'mat rempits'-in-the-making.Why just aim to punish just as an example.

As for the devil incarnate (scum of the earth), once he's caught. He deserves capital punishment which should be mandatory death sentence without ever a chance of being pardoned (on the basis of insanity etc). How he should die? The same way he killed a helpless girl and torturing her, painfully and slowly. Ever read about the ancient Chinese way of torturing by dismemberment? That should work on him.

Why am I being so angry? Why shouldn't I? I have little nieces that are the centre of my world, and this incident, my dearest, could happen anywhere. Even in the sleepy rural town. What has come to humans? During my childhood, I could play outside ALL day without worries. But now, *sigh*

My deepest condolence to late Nurin's family. The hearts of all Malaysians are with you now. Be strong and have faith that God's justice always prevails.

May her soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.

HARI BERTUAH - UNIMAS' Convocation Song

Bagaikan bintang berkelipan di angkasa,
Menemani purnama setia menghias
suasana,
Bagaikan mentari menyinari alam ini,
Mengiringi perjalanan memburu impian
yang dicipta,
Bersamamu ku melangkah,
Bersamamu ku membina,
Semangatmu kan ku bawa,
Menghadapi segala-galanya,
Segala ilmu yang diberi,
Telah membuka seribu erti,
Akan ku semat di hati menjadi
kenangan,
Diriku gagahi merentas ranjau berduri,
Halangan ditempuhi tanpa rasa resah
dalam hati,
Curahan jasa menyemai persada minda,
Suburlah inspirasi mewarnai perjuangan
ini,
Bersamamu ku melangkah,
Bersamamu ku membina,
Semangatmu kan ku bawa,
Menghadapi segala-galanya,
Segala ilmu yang diberi,
Telah membuka seribu erti,
Akan ku semat di hati menjadi
kenangan,
Hari bertuah menjelma kini,
Usaha dan janji telah terbukti,
Gemilang...UNIMAS...Gemilang...

~Hari Bertuah~
Lagu & lirik asal : Hafeez Askiak &
Hamzah Tahir

**********************************************************

I sang this song during the 2002 Convocation Session. It was the first time the song was performed and I was then part of the UNIMAS Choir. When it was my turn celebrating my convocation, in Dewan UNIMAS, the choir sang this song. Zab & I (both of us were choir members) sang our hearts out. Without realizing it, my eyes started to tear up and memories of my years in UNIMAS flashed before my eyes.
Damn! I love UNIMAS! Best damn place to study! Hehehe

p/s: Just received SMS from A.J. who's taking DPLI in UPM. He is the top student there with CGPA of 3.58... Yay! Let's show 'em what UNIMAS grads are made of!!! Hehehe

19,158 murid Tahun Satu belum mampu kuasai 3M - HORROR OF ALL HORRORS

********** Read more at BorneoPost

My say:
This is very worrying indeed. If there is no effective intervention being done to at least equip them with the basic skills (reading and writing), then these students will be left behind. Most of these students are from the rural area but that's not a valid excuse to say that just because they are from the rural schools then they are allowed to lag behind their urban counterparts. In the yesteryears, in the interiors of Nanga Oyan or Long Segaham, even though the parents had no formal education, at least the students could write and read. So I don't think it's a question of the geographical locations. More likely it is the issue of attitudes of the students, teachers and parents.
Why on earth did I say teachers? Because as a service provider in the education sector, we are entrusted to ensure that the students master the necessary skills for them to survive the education system. Of course we'll hope for the perfect situation, where the students entering the school system in Primary One could read and write their ABC's. Get real! Welcome to the real world! Nothing is ever ideal in this world.
Why is this issue of grave concern to me? I have 'inherited' such 'messy' products from Primary schools. Imagine students in Form 2 and even Form 3 who couldn't even read 2 syllable words in Bahasa Malaysia, let alone in English. And horror of all horrors, we are to prepare them for public exams. Such unfairness to the students (and teachers too). Even when secondary teachers 'inherit' such students, most would be extremely reluctant to take measures to rectify the situation. Maybe the need for a special education teacher to conduct remedial actions to train these students to read and write. Why let the students to 'go with the flow' and move on the education ladder when they are inadequately prepared to do so? Why not just take them out and let them attend remedial programme?
As teacher, I pray that God gives me the sincerity to provide education to my students. Let me not forget my responsibilities and the willingness to improve my practice.

SH!TTY MoNDAYS

2 weeks ago ... i lost something
1 week ago ... i fell down the stairs
Today ... i got stung by a bloody wasp 3 times

WTF?!!!

Is it any wonder that NATURALLY I'D HATE my Monday afternoon class other than for the obvious reasons that I hate it???

Gonna be very hard to keep all that A's this semester not with the BAD BAD hatred I have for this subject. I think I'd like it if it's properly done but as the weeks goes by, I honestly felt CRAPPY about it and I told my mentor the truth that I hate it. Bad Bad Karma all around. And the sentiment is shared by almost everyone in the class but i don't know, is it only me feeling absolutely lost and getting worse as the weeks went by.

Just hope that I'd be sane enough not to strangle people next week.

***********************************************

Things I'd done all the time I'd been here:

Secretary for Kem Siswa
Secretary for AJK Kebajikan Siswa
Project Director for Gawai Kaamatan FPendidikan
now
Student coordinator for Intel Teach workshop
next
Secretary (again) for DipEd Dinner Nite

in the process become so well known that even makcik dining hall also knows me (can get spesel lauk sans the ulat@telur *ahem*). The Dep.Dean is on my speedial list (bapak tempat kami semua mengadu ni) and some people yang takde keje lain so kutuk belakang2 pun makin bertambah (as if i care!).

Hopefully despite the insanity of a subject, complicated mess that is another... I hope to maintain my CGPA this semester.
Speaking of which, there's an attitude change of one of my friends. He used to be sweet and helpful but now he turned 'bengkeng' and annoying. It started the day our results were announced and I guess he was pissed off because of my result (How can the resident pemalas, kaki tidur, budak nakal of the class can get THAT result?! - well that was the general thought of my classmates) and he was expecting better than what he get. So now, he's getting real 'bengkeng', selfish and generally annoys me out of my sanity. Grrrr... Hope I won't bite his head off if he happens to piss me off on my BAD Days...

Questions & Congratulations

Should I? Shouldn't I?
Will it give happiness? To whom? Me? Others?
Is it the solution?

Few possible answers, need one only.
It's tough to be me.

REFLECTION OF A TEACHER Part 1

If there is an aspect of teaching that I am dissatisfied with, it must be the time I had to be away from doing my core business, which is teaching. These times which is usually for tasks that are not directly related to teaching such as being the organizing committee for functions in the school and sometimes it took me out from the classroom. I found that too often such things are disruptive to my teaching. I had to put my lesson on hold to do the things as ordered by the school authorities.

**Sadly this is the reality of being a teacher. One had to be a ‘Jack of All Trades’ being stretched thin. Is it any wonder that majority of ‘mental’ cases are burnt out teachers?

I am also dissatisfied with the way extra-curricular activities were handled. I was a Red Crescent member since my school years and suddenly I was asked to be the teacher-in-charge for the Scouts and Kelab Keselamatan Jalan Raya (which even the other teachers have no idea what is the purpose of most of the clubs). Although both are uniformed bodies, there are differences between both bodies. This ‘bidan terjun’ and ‘tangkap muat’ attitude really gets to me. The victims are both the students and teachers. Students are stuck in clubs or societies that they have no interest in and teachers were stuck figuring out how to handle the club or society as there were no handbook ready as guideline for the club. When extra-curricular activities were held in such haphazard way, is it any wonder that the students dislike it?

The most difficult things that I have experienced as a teacher has got to be dealing with reluctant, rowdy learners, some disgruntled teachers (their negativity really gets on my nerve) and difficult school administrators. There were some students who were really forced to go to school and they are very reluctant and uncooperative in the classroom. Not only were they not focused on the lesson, their behaviour very often disrupts the teaching and learning process. Some of them revealed to me, after much persuasion and coaxing, that most of them felt that going to school served no purpose to them. They were labelled as stupid and hopeless over the years until they subscribed to that idea. They believed that they are stupid and hopeless. The idea has fossilized in them. This is a difficult thing to change and to make the feel their self worth again, although it is not impossible.

Dealing with the disgruntled teachers annoyed me. They were not supportive of things that most new teachers tried to improve, always telling us that soon we’ll give up the idea and it is not worth the effort. ‘Penyapu baru’ was the term that they used to refer to us. For me, their attitude is toxic to the new teachers. Some new teachers will inevitably subscribe to their beliefs however flawed it was in the first place. My father is a retired teacher and I still see his passion in teaching and improving his students until now, so I know that there is no such thing like ‘penyapu lama’. We will be ‘old brooms’ if we allow ourselves to be one. We will be obsolete if we want to remain stagnant.

Ah, the dealing with difficult school administrator. Don’t get me wrong, there are some school administrators who were excellent and motivated others. However, sadly there are some who seemed to be intent on being such a pain to others. For example, I experienced working with a difficult Principal who seemed to subscribe to the belief “Do as I say, NOT do as I do”. He came in late but expected the teachers to be punctual, he puts decisions on hold and this frustrates the teachers to wait for the decisions. His ideas are always right and others should not question it. To question would be seen as questioning his authority. It isn’t any surprise that most teachers were hesitant to approach him but prefer to keep the disappointment to themselves and being more and more dissatisfied as days went by.

Disappointment will lead to a jaded teacher who couldn’t be bothered about things around them. However, this is something that passionate teachers must avoid. Problems will happen in any workplace in the world. Just keep reminded that the main client in the teaching ‘business’ are the students and there shouldn’t be anything that keep us from serving the best we could. The best satisfaction for me is to meet my former students, having them remember me, thanking me (even those naughty ones who gave me a hard time) and seeing that they are doing well. That’s my happiest moment.

-> This reflection is written for one of my subjects and I would like to share it here.

AND THE RESULT IS...

CGPA : 3.85
Lulus Cemerlang
Dalam Senarai Dekan**

Got 5 A's, 2 A- and 1 B+. And my result is the top of the whole diploma programme. :)

Praise Lord that I managed to achieve such results despite problems that happened just around the time of the exams (and sleeping more during the exam week itself, even while waiting outside the exam hall). Truly He answered my calls to strengthen me and support me. Thank you also for friends that stayed true by my side.

p/s: Suddenly there's an attitude change among some of my coursemates. A certain few who didn't really bother about me before, started to chat and be extra nice. Well, whatever makes them happy, as long as they don't stab me as a certain someone did last semester.

** Not bad for someone who "lived on trees", eh?

CONDOLENCE TO FRANKIE JEFFERY DEMANG'S FAMILY

Was shocked to hear about the sad news from uncle Desmond's blog. I didn't really know him although he's a cousin of mine but we did meet during the festivities in the kampungs as their longhouse is next to ours... Saw each other but didn't say anything, although aunty (his late mum) did introduce all of us... Kind of sorry that i did not make the effort to know them.
Rest in peace Frankie and I pray that the family (uncle, cousin and his wife&family) to be strong in this times of grief.

News from Home

Dad sms'ed me last Thursday, asking me about the happenings here and to update me on what's happening back home. Apart from going back to the longhouse for the annual 'ngabas pendam', dad also informed me about Mum's health.
She went for her check up at the Sibu Hospital and they told her that she will be admitted into the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on 18th April. Mum's got problem with her heart (doctors told her that her heart is enlarged due to weak heart problems) because the blood vessels are too congested and she needs a procedure to be done.
This shocks me that my gastritis came last night. My gastritis problem is largely due to extreme stress and last night was quite bad.
I'm worrying about Mum's condition although Dad told me not to worry too much since my final exam is due next week. How can I NOT worry? It's my parents' health, for sure any person would feel stressed.
So, I guess I'll be spending my one week holiday to be in Kuching to help Dad take care of Mum. Dad's not so familiar with driving in Kuching, so I'll be the driver... Thinking of extending my one week holiday but I know Dad'll disagree with me. Hmmm...
Do pray for my Mum's recovery and that the Lord may give us strength to deal with this.

Missing the Little Ones

I miss this lil' girl so much. She my Boo, my Baby Bear @ Anak Beruang. Love that big-big eyes and that small mulut bising. Yes, mulut bising. You'd never expect that you're talking with a 5 year-old if you talk to her. She talks like an adult. Just last night was talking to her on the phone. She told me to makan ubat if sakit, jangan lupa makan, jangan makan pedas. No one told her what to say... Next, she asked why I tak datang2 rumah.. Awww...sweeeet
I promised her that I'll buy her bears and books (like her aunt, she's a bookworm-in-the-making. Heheheh) She started to 'bising-bising' during the conversation sebab nak makan biskut that my mum served. Cheh... Hehehe
Love ya lots Chechen!

Chechen: "Anang manchal dek aunty, ngai ka lengan dek patah"
(Translation: aunty jangan nakal, nanti patah tangan)

Me: "Sapa tua dah patah lengan deh..."
(Translation: Siapa antara kita yang dah patah tangan?"

Chechen: "...Hehehehe"

Next is my sister's daughter, Audrey. She's also adorable. And she's a splitting image of my sis. She's an animal lover, very fond of cats (just like me!)...

A-yee called me today while I was having my afternoon nap. She told me about her cats, dogs and school. Hehehe... gayut lama-lama kat phone. I miss my nephews and nieces so much. Can't wait to go back and see them all in April.

*****************************************
Everyone in the family using Digi. Bankrap everytime I sms them. Maybe in April will be switching to a Postpaid plan. So that I can SMS them at a much lower rate and still keep my 'cantik' number...heheheh

Sms'ed my eldest niece in UiTM just now. Checking on her and give her some encouragement in studies. Budak ni besar tapi if lama tak sms or call her, nangis2 mengadu kat my Mum.Hahaha... Congek!

*************************

Pic was taken during the days prior to CNY '07. Went to Midvalley to cuci-cuci mata and buy some stuffs from Watsons & Guardians. Midvalley is the nearest to the uni so saja-saja go there. Sometimes I go to KLSentral... Go to the Pedestrian Mall there. Got lots of stuffs on sale there and most importantly, I get to eat my 'nasi roasted *ehem*' there...hehehe

LYRICS - I'll Be (Edwin McCain)

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath.
And emeralds from mountains thrust toward the sky
Never revealing their depth.
Tell me that we belong together,
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I'll be captivated,
I'll hang from your lips,
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above.

[Chorus:]
I'll be your crying shoulder,
I'll be love's suicide
I'll be better when I'm older,
I'll be the greatest fan of your life.

And rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed.
You're my survival, you're my living proof.
My love is alive -- not dead.
Tell me that we belong together.
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I'll be captivated,
I'll hang from your lips,
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

[Chorus]

And I've dropped out, I've burned up, I've fought my way back from the dead.
I've tuned in, turned on, remembered the things that you said

[Chorus:]
I'll be your crying shoulder,
I'll be love's suicide
I'll be better when I'm older,
I'll be the greatest fan of your...
I'll be your crying shoulder,
I'll be love's suicide
I'll be better when I'm older,
I'll be the greatest fan of your life.

The greatest fan of your life.
...greatest fan of your life.

This is quite an old song but I simply love the song and it's lyrics. So romantic and sweet. Dreaming that someone would play guitar and sing this to me.

I'll SO LOVE it! *swoon*swoon*

Dear Father

Dear Lord,

I know that I must forgive those who wronged me...
Even if again and again they did it unto me...
Seventy times seven forgive them I must
Offer my other cheek should they slap one
Love thy enemies you've told me to
"Forgive them thee must", Thy told me

But Father,
This pain is getting unbearable
The urge to retaliate and sink low to their level is ever stronger
This burden too heavy to bear
But bear them I must if Thy tells me so

So Father
please give me the strength to carry this cross
Send Your Holy Spirit to comfort me
You always wipe my tears and gave me shelter
Do bless me with the ability to forgive
For forgiving is hard when the hurt is so deep
My flesh is weak and my spirit unwilling
So give me the strength to carry on

Dear Father
I leave it unto Your hands to do what You think is fit
For whatever was done to me is between them and You
For I must not judge, lest I'll be judged

Father,
I put my trust in You
Remember our favourite phrase?

"I put my trust in Him, I shall not be afraid. For what can a mere human do unto me"
-Psalm 56:11

I put my faith in that promise Father,
so strengthen me
and carry me
When I am most weak
Never forsake me

Thank you Father.
Amen

The greatest betrayal happened today.
The Judas Kiss was given. Betrayal. Lies. Pain. Anger. Sadness. All mixed up inside me.
I don't know how a person from my home state, of my own race, could give me this ultimate betrayal of all. To cap it off, she didn't even have the guts to tell me and I only got to know it from others. It's not the covert thing she did that hurt me. It's the betrayal of trust and the lack of dignity to own it up. Hypocrites were never my favorite people to begin with. Traitors even more so. But I thank the Lord for there are still others who stood by me. Kate, my Muslim friends, Mum & Dad.

I broke up when I was talking to Mum & Dad. They told me to be strong, have faith and trust in God's plan. Not to retaliate but to seek God's strength and comfort. Thank you Lord for the gifts of family and friends (the real jewels) in my life. For in their words and encouragement, I find your voice.

*also Mum told me to keep away from that person. Not to bother with her anymore. because I am quite prone to violence so it is better to keep the distance, lest the Devil's whispers become actions. Thanks Mum & Dad. Love you lots.

** Another friend told me that sometimes I'm too kind. This is not the first but surely this is the ultimate betrayal this girl ever did to me. I don't know. When I care for others, I just take it in silence until the ultimate blow. Then only I learn my lesson. Am I too kind?

Chicken Rice Recipe (Chicken & Dip)

** Courtesy of Barbara Sian. Thanks Barb!

To Puteri: The recipe you requested :)

Chicken
  1. Rub 1 midsize whole chicken with salt.
  2. Boil 1/3 pot of water with 1 tsp salt.
  3. Add thumb size ginger, whole clove of garlic & 2 stalks of spring onion.
  4. Immerse chicken & let boil for 10 mins.
  5. Cover & simmer over low fire for 1 hour.
  6. When cooked, take chicken out & immerse in cold water for 5 mins.
  7. Pat dry & rub with sesame oil. Cut into pieces.
  8. Add MSG, vege, pepper & fried onion into gravy as the soup.
Sambal/Dip
  1. Pound chilli, a slice of ginger & 3 cloves garlic.
  2. Mix with sweet soy sauce, lime juice & few drops of sesame oil.
  3. You can try to mix with 1/2 lime skin minced well into the dip. Taste better for me.

Pic: The lime used for the dip. If the skin with the pulp (after the juice is squeezed) is minced finely & mixed with the dip, it gives the dip that extra 'kick' :)
Garnish
Garnish with sliced tomato & cucumber.

I've put this in my other blog long, long time ago. As I checked the old posts, this caught my attention. It's rather long but beautiful & refreshing to the soul. Read on...

CONVERSATION WITH GOD

Prayer is, in the strictest sense, a humble religious petition of man toGod to seek divine benevolence and benefits he needs for life, both temporal and eternal. It is a conversation with God, either by accepted prayer forms,or from the heart. Here, then, in conversational verse, is a hypothetical talk the Lord might have with us, His children..........

It is not necessary my child, to know much in order to please me much;it is enough that you love me fervently. Speak here to me then, as you would speak to your most intimate friend, to your mother, to your brother.

So, you want to ask me to do something for someone? Tell me his name. Is it your parents, your brothers, your friends? Tell me what you want me to do for them now. Ask much, very much: do not hesitate to ask. I love generous hearts who somehow can come to forget themselves to look after the needs of others. Speak sincerely to me then, of the poor you would console,of the sick you see suffering, of the strayed you yearn to see return to the right path, of those absent friends you want at your side again. Say at least one word for each, the ardent word of a friend. Remind me that I have promised to listen to every petition that arises from the heart, and is not a prayer for those whom your heart especially loves such a pray?

And for you: do you need a particular favor? Make a list, as it were, of your needs, and come and read it in my presence.

Tell me frankly that you are prone to anger, that you love sensuality and pleasure, that you are perhaps proud, variable, negligent . . . Ask me to come to the help of those efforts, many or few, which you undertake to free yourself from these faults.

Do not be ashamed, poor soul; there are in Heaven so many saints who had these same defects; but they prayed humbly, and little by little they saw themselves freed from them.

Do not hesitate to ask Me for spiritual and material goods; for health, memory, success in your work, enterprises and studies; all these I can give and I do give -- as long as they do not hinder, but rather assist your sanctification. Precisely today, what do you need? What can I do for you?If only you knew how much I would like to help you!

Do you have, right now, some project in mind? Tell me everything in detail. What preoccupies you? What are you thinking? What do you want? What do you want me to do for your parents, your brothers, your children, your superiors? What would you want to do for them?

And for me, do you feel an attraction for my glory? Do you not want todo something for those friends whom you love much but who perhaps live separated from me?

Tell me what in particular attracts your attention today, what you desire most ardently and what means you have of obtaining it? Tell me if your plans are not working and I will tell you the causes of your difficulties. Do you not want to interest me in your quest? My dear one, I am the Lord of hearts and I move them, without violating their freedom, to wherever I please.

Are you perhaps sad, or in bad humor? Tell me, tell me, you inconsolable soul, tell me your sorrows in all their details. Who wounded you? come close to my Heart, and find in it a refreshing balsam for the wounds in yours. Then, you will confess that, like me, you forgive everything, you forget everything. In appreciation, you will receive my consoling benediction.

Are you perhaps afraid? Do you feel in your soul those vague stirrings of sadness which, however unjustified, can be so tearing? Throw yourself in the arms of my Providence. I am with you. I am at your side. I see everything. I hear everything. I shall not abandon you for one moment.Do you feel ignored by persons who loved you once but who now have forgotten you without cause? Pray from them and I will bring them back to you if they are not obstacles to your salvation.

And don't you have, perhaps, some joy to communicate to me? Why don't you let me share it with you, like a friend?

Tell me what has consoled and gladdened your heart since yesterday, since you last visited me. Perhaps you have had an agreeable surprise; perhaps you have seen grave doubts dissipated, or you have received good news -- a letter, or perhaps a gesture of love. Maybe you have overcome some difficulty, or come out of a trying situation. All of this is my work. I have obtained this for you. Why not show me your gratitude and say, like a child to its father, "Thank you, my Father, thank you." Gratitude brings forth new gifts since benefactors, as you know, like to see themselves appreciated.

Do you not have a promise to make to me? I read, you know, the bottom of hearts. Men are easily deceived, but not God. Speak to me, then honestly;do you have firm intentions of avoiding the occasion of sin? Of denying yourself that object that harmed your soul? Of not reading again that book which excited your imagination? Of avoiding that person who disturbed the peace of your soul?

Will you be kind to that person who, because he offended you, you have regarded as an enemy?

And now, my child return to your work, to your office, to your family,to your studies -- but do not forget these fifteen minutes of intimate conversation we have had in the privacy of the sanctuary. Keep as much as possible, silence, resignation, modesty, charity towards your neighbors.Love and honor my Mother, who is also your Mother. And please come again tomorrow with an even more fervent heart, to unite it to mine. In it you will find every day new love, new gifts, new consolation. Here I await you.

JANGAN-JANGAN MENANGIS

Pernah kah kau dikecewakan
Pernahkah hati mu terluka
Oleh temanmu yang pernah bersamamu
Maafkanlah dia jangan benci

Aku juga pernah mengalami
Seperti yang pernah kau rasa kan
Namun ku tetap memandang pada Yesus
Sendirian namun tak kesepian

Jangan-jangan kau menangis
Jangan-jangan kau bersedih hadapilah dengan senyum
Pada mu ada kasih
Jangan-jangan kau kecewa
Jangan-jangan putus asa
Yesus masih menunggu mu
Ingin membalut luka di hatimu o……..o
Ingin membalut luka di hatimu

p/s: Singing this song to heal the pain I'm experiencing right now, especially when I'm hurting. Laughing on the outside but no one knows what's in my heart. None except my Lord, my refuge, my sanctuary...

PAINFUL FRIENDS

Damn...

I am so frustrated with juvenile, childish people. Those who'd known me for years know very well that I am so intolerant of people who behaved childishly with me. Konon2nya adults. Much older than me but acted so juvenile. Macam mana nak survive dan menjadi guru yang baik???

Go and play with small kids will ya? I don't have time for the stupid manipulative games that you want to play...Shooo...shooo... pi jauh2...

To be nice all the time to these childish people is so taxing on my energy... Some more I'm having my lower back pain again (James, help!), my assignments and projects, I really don't have the patience to deal with this. Felt like bashing them up but then, that wouldn't look nice on my resume ya. Don't worry-lah, hope it won't go to that extent. Otherwise, all those anger management things will just go to waste.

Now, how must I deal with this. I can either:
  1. Keep quiet and hope things will get better (miracle now please)
  2. Deal with it. Tell them and just get it over with (easier said than done)
  3. Be a grand diva and throw a tantrum of great magnitude (dramatic, enjoyable, but irrepairable damage)
  4. Bash them up (good prospect but bad for my record la)
  5. Get a new set of friends (I will be labeled as buang kawan senegeri)
*sigh* being friends with certain species of girls has always been a pain in the a$$ for me. Why can't they just chill and not be so juvenile-ish about things?

EDIT: Am getting cool now and I've edited some real nasty things from this post. That was kinda cheap shot at those who hurt me.
As the Lord said to answer the question "How many times must I forgive my brother? Seven times?". The Lord saith " No, seventy times seven".

Lord, help me to forgive those who hurt me (deliberately or otherwise) and forgive them, for they know not what they do. Amen.

Almost a month in UM

Been here almost a month and already met wonderful people and some f**ked up ones as well.

The course is 12-weeks continuous classes, 1 week exam, 1 week break and back to classes again. But I bet we're still relaxed compared to those in the Institut Perguruan. The have the whole she-bang to live with.

My classes are ok, some lecturer are waaaaay cool. I especially liked my grammar & phonetics lecturer, Dr. G... 4 hours straight in her class and the time just flies by. Best...

My kolej kediaman is situated on top of the hill in UM. The water supply sucks, my room is dark (I hate dark rooms), I have a freaky-rajin roommate (seriously rajin study ni) and almost invisible roomate (unless she bawak her stupid bird-shrill loud mouth friend who just never shut up even tho' I am clearly sleeping. BodoBit*h!), the kolej is far from my fac, the bus service is frustrating. Which makes me wonder, my hostel in uni is usually
a) far
b) sucks
c) on a hill
d) any combination of the above
now it's e) all of the above. (Yech!)

And the allowance & agreement still not in sight... This programme is actually another 'ad-hoc-racy' (read: almost last minute thingy la), which almost explains why things are so not in order.

I missed all the yummy foods back home. I want to eat pansuh, kasam, etc... Huhu, anyone wanna kirim me those glorious foods???

Lesson learnt, here cannot simply be that trusting.... argh!! lost my contact numbers again!!! Thankfully my best buddy since my undergrad days are kind enough to lend me his hp... Thanks Zab!! (I'm using my old number for those who knows my old number la)

Now I want to go back to my hostel room and have a good cry :~(
