ADUSSSSS!!!!

Some memorable 'quotes' courtesy of my students' answers in their paper 2:


After Ali dilanggar motorsikal axiden Ali no seput.

The motorcycle driver can not break and they bertembung.

Adussss... There are more but I couldn't remember clearly. Found these type of sentences in about 1++ essays out of 2++ papers marked.
Headache to mark but very entertaining to read. I was rolling around laughing so hard at some of the 'creative' answers.

You should not laugh at them. try to correct them and replace the word bertembung with belantak or 'eksiden'. I am sure they will appreciate it :)

phew ... tell you, that is among the most pedis job that teacher's have to endure ... don't laugh but smile can. Hehe .. but at least your student already got part of his idea written into English, right? That's a good sign, since he/she understands what he/she wants to write, it's just that some words are mengacau it. That's why I emphasize the use of dictionary among my students, to help them if im not around.

Word structure is wrong and needs to be written all over again.
Even after word correction - ((After Ali was hit by a motorcycle accident Ali was dead)). Sounds weird huh?
Should be in the likes of - Ali passed away yesterday after he was involved in an accident.

The motorcycle driver can not break and they bertembung. - Cannot? Brake and collided.
Whole word structure is ok la.

This is not an easy job. But , nevermind. Bit by bit, everyday sure can win one. Sabar ...

Desmond & Dunstan,
I laughed in the privacy of home. In school, I'm serious (haha!). One can't help but to smile/chuckle/laugh/frown over some of the superbly-creative answers that we get.

Using the dictionary is good. However, the drawback is that the students translate directly BM to English. Hence, we'll come upon sentences like "I long time never send news because I medium busy" (Saya lama tidak mengirimkan berita kerana saya agak sibuk). o_O

Teaching them the sentence structure is difficult as some still struggles with the basics (article, verb, tenses etc). But sure as you say, in the end I hope they will be somehow be proficient and might even enjoy English, God willing.

Well - you will be surprised adults have the same problem.....I will blog it one of this free afternoons after I find where they left the report..it involves just one word....its obscene and funny but they submit it to our Government.

well, it happens to my kids here. They had to struggle 2,3 times more than others but everybody speaks one language which is English so, they'll be alright. Im sure their teacher here will fine a few spelling mistakes too. On our way across the pacific ocean, the flight attendant asked my youngest,'Would you like omellete or noodle for bfast?' She had to repeat a couple of times. He answer,'Coke' My eldest laugh out loud after the flight attendant left.

my students were doing exercises on The Simple Past Tense.

One of them wrote

yesterday some teachers doing research came to my classes for introductory session (they use my students as respondents). Their English is rather 'berterabur'. Aiyo. My students senyum2 ja.Aduh2..

Some locals din pun enda tentu nemu speaking enggau manah. One of my friend went to UK to do her masters. She commented that even her English is better than some of them.Anyway, I'm sure your kids can and will do well there. :)
