Theatre (or theater, see spelling differences) (from French "théâtre", from Greek "theatron", θέατρον, meaning "place of seeing") is the branch of the performing arts defined as simply as what "occurs when one or more persons, isolated in time and/or space, present themselves to another or others."[1] By this broad definition, theatre has existed since the dawn of man, as a result of human tendency for story telling. Since its inception, theatre has come to take on many forms, often utilizing elements such as speech, gesture, music, dance, and spectacle, combining the other performing arts, often as well as the visual arts, into a single artistic form. There are a variety of philosophies, artistic processes, and theatrical approaches to creating plays and drama. Some are connected to political or spiritual ideologies, and some are based on purely "artistic" concerns. Some processes focus on a story, some on theatre as event, and some on theatre as catalyst for social change. According to Aristotle's seminal theatrical critique Poetics, there are six elements necessary for theatre: Plot, Character, Idea, Language, Music, and Spectacle. The 17th century Spanish writer Lope de Vega wrote that for theatre one needs "three boards, two actors, and one passion".

We act everyday. At home, at work, at play. We put a performance daily. For example,we may dislike a person to the deepest pit of their core, but we still can smile and converse with them. Or, when we simply don't give a damn about someone's new manicure, bisul, etc, we still can act as if they are saying the most interesting thing on earth. Go figure.
Just came back from a 3-day Basic Theater Workshop. Attended the course with my colleague and other teachers, students and some members of arts groups (actually we brought along the students because otherwise, it would be just attended by 10 participants).
Our facilitator for the course was En. Suffian Hj. Jalet, a teacher in Sekolah Seni Malaysia, Kuching. He delivered the course very well, too bad he was suffering from tonsilitis on the second day.
My only gripe about the course is the accommodation. Really, putting us up in a derelict, to be torn down hostel is not acceptable. And saying that ' one must suffer in the pursuit of learning' or ' so that you can focus more on this course' is out of the picture. No sicere apologies, just excuses. Gee, thanks En. Pegawai Penguasa. Now, go to H3LL!!!
I meet wonderful new acquaitances in this course, especially the other teachers as well all the D'Gassa art group members. Leman, Bujai, Limah, Siti, Jess and Nafis, you guys are a blast to be with!
Overall, the workshop was a wonderful experience, although I did feel under the weather on the last day. For the vocal practice, I'm really thankful that I had vocal lessons in Uni (thanks En. Hafiz) because I already have the vocal panggung (loud and clear voice) not to mention the frequent practice in classrooms. Heheh...
Actually, a lot more things to tell but I am so tired (slept for 3 hours after I reached home) and I still have to handle the 'amazing race' for academic week tomorrow.
p.s: Tagged by Grace. Hmm... Will answer them later.
